Which Vacuum Cleaner Should You Buy ?

No one really wants to spend money on a new vacuum cleaner but there always comes a time when you have to. Maybe your old vacuum is broken or you are just looking for one with better performance then what you are using now. Well recently I was in the same situation and I found it difficult to choose the best vacuum cleaner for me with so many options available today. I decided to pick the top ten most popular vacuums  and research each one to find their pros and cons to help me pick one. So check out my vacuum cleaner reviews and my comparison chart below if you are also shopping for a new vacuum, hopefully it will help save you some time finding the best one for you.

A few things to consider when choosing a vacuum cleaner:

  • Do you want a bagged vacuum or would you prefer bagless ?
  • You will have to carry you vacuum up and down stairs ?
  • Do you have pets and need a vacuum that is designed for pet hair?
  • Do you have asthma or allergies and need a Hepa filter ?
  • Will you be vacuuming different surfaces and need adjustable height ?
  • Are your floors mostly carpet or are they hard surfaces like tile or hardwood flooring ?
  • Do you need a long extension hose for getting to hard to reach places ?
  • Do you need a powered hand tool for upholstery or stairs ?
  • How much do you want to spend ?
  • Do you want a brush bar  that can be turned off for better performance on hard surfaces ?
  • Would you like a long power cord so you don’t have to keep moving to a closer power outlet ?

Dyson DC40 – The Dyson DC40 is the mid-sized vacuum in the Dyson upright line. The ball design makes this vacuum very easy to steer and maneuver around tight spaces and furniture. The vacuuming head height adjusts automatically so you can move from carpet to hard flooring and back again without having to bend over and make a manual adjustment. On the newer version of the DC40 you simply pull the handle back to start vacuuming; the stand is automatically released and you are ready to go, no need to use your foot. Most of the components of the DC40 are mounted inside the ball of the vacuum giving a nice uncluttered appearance and keeping the center of gravity low for easy cleaning. With Dyson’s Radial Root Cyclone™ technology you will never have to worry about losing suction even when the dirt canister is full. The Dyson DC40 is slightly smaller and lighter than the DC41 so if you need to carry your vacuum up and down stairs frequently it may be a better option. Click here for full review

Hoover Windtunnel T Series Pet Rewind – The Hoover T-Series Pet Rewind is similar to the popular T Series Rewind except it is designed for pet owners. It features the same 12 amp motor,Hoover’s  Cyclonic Windtunnel Technology as well as the awesome auto rewind extension cord option. The total weight for the Pet Rewind is around 18 lbs which is also similar to the non pet version. The pet specific features include an additional carbon filter on the underside of the Hepa filter which helps eliminate odors, a powered hand tool with rubberized blades designed specifically for pet hair that won’t get tangled up as well as the same pet hair specific rubber on the upholstery tool. Other standard features are the folding handle for easy storage, no scuff bumpers to protect your walls, built in headlight, auto notification when to wash the filter, height adjustment and the ability to turn the brushroll off. Dyson DC33  – The Dyson DC33 is upright multi-floor bagless vacuum cleaner that uses Dyson’s patented Root Technology which means you will never loss suction power regardless of how full the dirt container gets. It also includes a washable hepa filter, an extension wand to reach difficult spots, a see through collection bin, built in accessories and is fairly light eight making it easy to carry up and down stairs. Hoover Windtunnel T Series Rewind – The Hoover Windtunnel T-series rewind is a very popular vacuum cleaner and one of the best sellers on Amazon. It offers a lot of features at a very reasonable price. It’s a bagless vacuum that has a built in retractable cord so you don’t have to manually wind up the cord when you are finished cleaning. It also has a built in hepa filter, five position height adjustment and includes a good selection of accesories one of which is an air powered hand tool for pet hair. Click here for full review

Bissell  Cleanview Helix –  The Cleanview Helix from Bissell is a low cost, upright bagless vacuum cleaner. It features five manual height adjustments on the front of the machine to change the brushbar height depending on the flooring surface you are cleaning. The suction is powered by a twelve amp motor and it comes with a built in hepa filter which captures  99.9% of the particles in the air passing through it. The Cleanview even includes a hand tool with a powered brush built in to clean stairs and upholstery, a crevice tool and a dusting tool. Hoover Windtunnel Max – The Windtunnel Max Multi-Cyclonic Bagless upright is a powerful,full size vacuum featuring Hoover’s Windtunnel Max technology consisting of three separate suction channels and a total of 12 cyclones. This combination ensures consistent suction power and results in fewer particles getting stuck in the exhaust filter so you don’t have to wash it as often. It has a strong 12 amp motor, 28 foot power cord, Hepa filter and weighs under 19 pounds. There is a seven position manual height adjustment on the front and you get a good selection of tools with the vacuum including a powered hand tool. Dyson DC41 Animal Complete – The Dyson Dc41 Animal Complete another upright bagless vacuum from Dyson that features it’s until Ball technology which allows easier maneuverability tight living spaces. It uses Dyson’s Radial Root Cyclone suction technology so you never loss any suction power and it is designed with pet owners in mind.  The included powered Turbine hand tool is very unique because instead of using a standard brush roll it has two counter rotating brushes that force all the pet hair into the suction hose without getting any hair tangled around the brush. Shark Navigator Lift Away –  The Shark Navigator Lift Away is a multitasking full size vacuum cleaner. Not only is it a powerful upright vacuum, its also a compact portable vacuum . The suction unit can be removed from the upright chassis so you can carry it around to clean awkward and hard to reach places. This makes it much more versatile than your standard upright vacuum. It features a extension hose with wand, good selection of tools including a hand tool with a powered brush, a Hepa filter, no loss of suction design and comes with a five year warranty. The Lift Away is highly rated vacuum that comes in at a very affordable price. Dirt Devil Dynamite – The Dirt Devil Dynamite is a no frills, low cost upright vacuum cleaner. Its an extremely light weight bagless vacuum that is very easy to carry up and down stairs. It even has a collapsible hand so it doesn’t take up a lot of room when storing it in the closet. Even though its a low cost vacuum it still comes with a Hepa filter, stretch hose and a few basic tools.  It features auto height adjustment and includes a 25 foot power cord. The 7 amp motor products adequate suction for most jobs  and you get a 1 year warranty. If you don’t need all the fancy features of the other higher priced vacuums this little devil may be just the vacuum for you. Click here for full review

Hoover Windtunnel Air – The Hoover Windtunnel air is a compact, lightweight upright bagless vacuum cleaner. It weighs in at a mere 12.4 pounds making it the second lightest vacuum we reviewed. It’s slightly smaller size makes it very easy to maneuver around tight spaces but it also includes a 12 foot extension hose and wand to vacuum high up spots. It still uses Hoovers Windtunnel technology which prevents any loss of suction and it comes with a washable filter as well a Hepa filter to clean the air as you vacuum. Another bonus with the vacuum is the fact you can lower it down flat to get under furniture.
